The Board

Clive Rigden - Managing Director (Chief Executive)
Clive founded ESI and has established it as a respected company in the international waste-water treatment industry, attracting highly regarded specialists to join and develop the company and its technology portfolio.
Previously he has had a successful career in business and marketing, founding and running conference & publishing companies in the environmental, aerospace and defence sectors.
Clive was formerly a director of several private and public companies and has had wide experience of working with governments, NGO’s, and trade & industry groups in several sectors around the world.

Tracey Barlow – Non-executive Director (Chairman of the Board)
Tracey gained a BSc in Chemistry from the Open University whilst working for ICI as a research student and subsequently has spent over 20 years working at senior positions in the utilities sector.As head of Programme Delivery, she was responsible for the delivery of Scotland’s £2 bn water and wastewater capital infrastructure programmes.
Tracey also has extensive operational and customer services experience, culminating as General Manager Network Operations serving 7m customers in the UK. She is additionally a Director of the British Highways Agency, the Office of Rail Regulation and other national bodies which brings valuable outside experience to the Board of ESI.

Jan Ward – Non-executive Director
A Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years experience in the metals industry, Jan has specialised in metallurgy, especially high-grade alloy metals and products for the oil, gas, power and petrochemical sector. She is founder and Chairman of Corrotherm International Ltd.
A graduate of the Institute of Export in 1984, Jan has worked for several producers and distributors in the USA, Europe & Middle East, carrying out projects to establish companies in these markets. She is also a Director of the Saudi British Joint ~Business Council and President of the Southampton & Fareham Chamber of Commerce & Industry and a Director of the Hampshire Chamber. In recognition of her abilities and achievements, Jan was awarded the NatWest/Everywoman Business Woman of the Year in 2009

Samuel L. Shepherd - Director (Technology)
Sam has a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering, and is on the American Board of Forensic Engineering and Technology. He is a recognised and prolific inventor and technical problem solver in chemicals, energy, oil & gas, and waste treatment.
His previous experience includes senior positions with Gulf Oil Chemicals, Air Products and Holloman Corp. Sam is the principal inventor of a number of worldwide process patents and works with ESI in these areas.
The Management Team

Dr Jake Spooner – Manager, Engineering & Technology
Jake holds a B.Eng. (Hons.) in Civil Engineering and German, and a Ph.D. in Hydraulic Engineering. Jake has the design responsibility for Eco-Solids’ process technologies, and is involved in both project implementation and development. He worked as a Water Engineer with Riley Consultants in New Zealand before coming back to the UK to join ESI and before that, worked with Black & Veatch, based in Great Britain, where he developed many client projects.

Chris Newman – Manager, Sales & Business Development
Chris has a successful track record in sales within the technology sector, developed from a hands-on background in engineering. He spent many years establishing a commercial base for a start-up company in the area of novel energy recovery, and combines commercial skills with technical know-how.
Chris now heads up Eco-Solids International’s sales & business development activities in the waste-water & sludge treatment markets, as well as waste-to-energy, world-wide. He is also responsible for appointing and managing ESI’s growing network of Agents and Licensees.

Dr Peter Barratt – Manager, Markets & Product Development
Peter is an Environmental Engineer with a background in biotechnology. He runs the market & product development, where he is technical liaison for our international partners and also has responsibility for IP development and protection for the business. A Member of the Society of Biology, Peter holds a PhD from Reading University in Environmental Microbiology, and has had a career in applications of technology to environmental processes.
Peter has technical, sales-channel and management skills, and has worked in bioremediation, environmental consultancy and spent 14 years with Air Products & Chemicals, holding senior positions in their Global Water Applications division.

Dr Manocher Asaadi – R&D Waste-water
Manocher holds a B.Sc. and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London. He worked on solutions for treatment of nuclear waste at Imperial College, and subsequently spent 16 years in research and engineering at a senior level within a major water utility; Thames Water in Great Britain.
Formerly Head of Research for Biosolids at Thames Water, Manocher has a proven track record in successful development and delivery of asset projects, R&D and projects management. He has extensive international experience in sludge treatment, renewable energy generation from waste, and solid waste processing
Michael Clyde – Company Secretary & Financial Controller
Michael is a Chartered Accountant who has achieved FCA and ATII. His business experience includes a partnership in a major firm of City of London accountants and accounting and non-executive directorships in several business sectors. Michael’s accounting skills form a valuable part of Eco-Solids’ management team, and he plays an important part in the development of the company.

Anne Wood – Quality & Business Co-ordinator
Anne’s business career has covered a variety of sectors including, European Quality Systems Auditor for the Bacardi group. Her experience has involved examining supplier’s quality issues, achievement of ISO 9001 accreditation, as well as environmental auditing, and roles in Health & Safety. Anne manages the H&S, quality and patent issues at Eco-Solids, as well as overseeing the company’s effective administration.
