THE ECO-SOLIDS PROCESS

The Eco-Solids Process is a continuous lime stabilisation process suitable for treating all types of sewage sludge. In particular, the Eco-Solids Process is able to treat Surplus/Secondary Activated Sludge (SAS), which is considered difficult to treat. The process produces an enhanced treated biosolid product (or a Class A/Exceptional Quality (EQ) product according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 503 definition). Other advantages of the ESP include:

  • Substantially reduced odours;
  • Sludge volume reduction;
  • Improved percentage of solids of the product
  • Complete inactivation of microbiological activity;
  • A reduction in water extractable phosphates and nitrogen;
  • Energy and operational efficiency; and
  • All at competitive capital and operational costs.
The Eco-Solids Process has been developed from the Bioset and HEC2000 processes in the USA, where this reactor technology is well established and units are being used commercially with proven performance. An illustration of the Eco-Solids system is shown in the Figure below.
