Laboratory CELLRUPTORS
Eco-Solids International can now offer interested customers a Laboratory scale CELLRUPTOR for the testing of various feedstock.
The Laboratory Unit shown here is being used by Scandinavian Biogas in Sweden to research the CELLRUPTOR pre-treatment technology for increasing biogas production from SAS (Secondary Activated Sludge) in preparation for full scale commercial installations in Sweden.
The laboratory CELLRUPTOR unit operates in batch mode, as opposed to the full-scale apparatus which operates continuously. The CELLRUPTOR reactor unit consists of a stainless 8 litre steel vessel, approximately 30cm in length, mounted vertically. The vessel can be charged with up to 1.5 litres of feedstock for one batch treatment, through the top of the unit, which is removable. After replacing the top by hand, the unit is then pressurized from a suitable cylinder supply of CO2 (or a CO2/CH4 gas mixture to simulate biogas) via a regulator, to the correct pressure, and left for the appropriate residence time.
The reactor unit has had a full HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), and has been pressure tested.
